While 2026 has already seen the release of Tedeschi Trucks Band's first new album in four years, Future Soul, more new music from the powerhouse 12-piece ensemble is coming. Guitarist and co-bandleader Derek Trucks revealed TTB has six additional songs “mixed and ready” during a recent appearance on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast.

Host Kyle Meredith started his chat with Trucks by discussing how the band intended to follow 2022’s I Am Moon. “We made that four-part record during the pandemic,” Derek explained. “There was just an awful lot of time and energy and it was just a weird time. No one knew which way was up. This time around, we had been on the road for a few years when the pandemic ended and we could travel again and tour. The first thing we said was, we don’t have to do that again.”

Tedeschi Trucks Band hit the studio with producer Mike Elizondo, where they wrote and finished 17 songs. For Future Soul once they wrote and recorded 17 songs they decided against putting out a double album. “We already decided that this one, even when we were sequencing it … we really loved all of the song,” Trucks continued. However they landed on, “what’s the most complete thought and it became this 11 [song] Future Soul [album].”

Derek Trucks went on to talk about the songs they finished which didn’t make it onto Future Soul. “The other six are already mixed and ready like the rest of them. I think it’ll be an EP, probably, maybe half a year after Future Soul.” He then hedged his bet a little, stating “I don’t know exactly what we’ll do with it, but we’re treating [the new material] as equal siblings.”

Kyle Meredith and Derek Trucks continued by discussing the progression of the band showcased on Future Soul. “Mike Elizondo had amazing ideas sonically and otherwise,” Trucks added. “Immediately you could just tell, this one’s going to feel a little different in the best way. The way the drums and bass were pumping and breathing, there was something more aggressive and edgier about the sounds. It made everyone play differently.”

The interview also covered the genesis of Future Soul standout “Who I Am,” TTB opening for the Eagles, how the band learned the importance of restraint and several other topics. Listen to Derek Trucks’ appearance on Kyle Meredith With… below:
