Tedeschi Trucks Band Debuts ‘Whipping Post’ Cover In Orlando

By Scott Bernstein May 29, 2017 9:23 am PDT

Guitarists Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi led the Tedeschi Trucks Band at Dr. Phillips Center For Performing Arts in Orlando on Sunday night. The TTB honored the late Gregg Allman for the second night in a row as they unveiled a cover of the Allman Brothers Band classic “Whipping Post” to end their main set.

Derek Trucks was a longtime member of the Allmans having joined the group in 1999 and staying on through their final show in 2014. Susan Tedeschi handled vocals on the TTB debut of “Whipping Post” which featured a fierce solo from Derek. One night earlier the band had covered “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More” and “Statesboro Blues” in honor of Gregg who died earlier in the day.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band opened Sunday’s show with originals “Laugh About It” and “Do I Look Worried.” As always, the group treated fans to a varied batch of covers which on this night included George Jones’ “Color Of The Blues,” Derek & The Dominos’ “Anyday” and George Harrison’s “Isn’t It A Pity,” while “Idle Wind,” “Anyhow” and “Bound For Glory” were among the other originals performed.
