Tedeschi Trucks Band Honor Gregg Allman At Brand New Jacksonville Venue

Last night Tedeschi Trucks Band were tapped to play the inaugural show at Daily’s Place in their hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. The Southern soul-rock band treated the crowd at the brand new amphitheater to a mix of originals and covers, while also paying their respects to their extended musical family member Gregg Allman.

The 12-piece ensemble opened night with a tribute to Derek Trucks longtime band mate with a cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More.” From there the Tedeschi Trucks Band offered takes on material from their own catalog which included “Don’t Know What It Means,” “Midnight In Harlem,” “Let Me Get By” and “I Want More” from their most recent self-titled studio album. The band also dipped into their large repertoire of cover songs, offering up versions of Derek & The Dominos “Keep On Growing,” Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On A Wire” and Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.”

When the band returned to the stage for their encore Susan Tedeschi used the opportunity to acknowledge the passing not only of Allman, but other musicians that have been both important and influential to them that have passed – Butch Trucks, Leon Russell and Col. Bruce Hampton, telling the crowd “It’s been a rough year. It’s getting really difficult to deal with.” The Tedeschi Trucks Band closed out the night with a cover of Leon Russell’s “A Song For You,” “Statesboro Blues,” a longtime staple for the Allman Brothers and their own “Bound For Glory.”
