Taper’s Choice brought their 2026 Winter Tour to Asheville Music Hall in Asheville, North Carolina on Wednesday. The band welcomed Sr. Dog's Scott McMicken for a rendition of his “Mountain Lion.”

Taper’s Choice dropped their debut studio album, Prog Hat, in October 2025 and also shared news of their current tour, which began on the West Coast and is now in the Southeast leading up to a voyage on Jam Cruise.

The Asheville stop got underway with the band — drummer Chris Tomson (Vampire Weekend), bassist Alex Bleeker (Real Estate), guitarist Dave Harrington (Darkside) and keyboardist Zach Tenorio-Miller (Arc Iris) — delivering staple “Lick The Toad.”

Taper’s Choice also offered Prog Hat cut “Pino Botticelli” ahead of “Waiting for the Flood” and “Close Encounters.” McMicken then emerged to lead a track off his 2023 record Shebang, recorded with his band The Ever-Expanding.

Scott sang on the dubby “Mountain Lion” and also brought his cassette player along to add some of the song’s textural elements. Following McMicken’s departure, Taper’s Choice wrapped the performance with “So Bright a Vision” and “Vegan in the ’90s.”
