Sunday Cinema | Three Generations Of Lesh On Ripple

By Scott Bernstein Feb 1, 2015 10:00 am PST

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh had a big day at his Terrapin Crossroads venue in San Rafael, California yesterday. Not only did Lesh share the stage with his son and grandson early in the day, but he also participated in the official debut of his new band at night.

Guitarist Stu Allen rounded up a group of musicians for the Saturday Brunch gig at Terrapin Crossroads. At one point in the performance, Phil Lesh came out to sing “Ripple.” Phil was holding his grandson Levon during a “Ripple” that also featured his son, Grahame, on guitar and vocals. Watch the sweet scene as captured by nowiknowuryder:

Later in the evening, Phil Lesh debuted his new band Communion in the Grate Room. Phil was joined by guitarists Stu Allen, Ross James and Grahame Lesh as well as drummer Alex Koford and special guest Jason Crosby for the two Communion sets. Communion stuck only to staples from the Grateful Dead’s live repertoire throughout the evening including an inventive “China Cat Sunflower” > “Playing In The Band Reprise” > “I Know You Rider” sequence as the encore.
