Former The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes revealed in an interview published this week that he was open to getting the band back together for a reunion sometime in the future. The Allmans ended a stellar 45-year career with a career-spanning three-set show at the Beacon Theatre in New York City last October, but even a glimmer of hope for more from the group has their fans wishing Warren’s admission comes to fruition.

Warren got our ABB wheels turning, with this week’s Sunday Cinema focusing on a short but impressive set the band played at NBC Studios in Burbank, California on July 29, 1981. Supported by backup singers The Allman Brothers Band lineup then featured Dickey Betts (guitar), Gregg Allman (keyboards/guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), Don Toler (guitar), Mike Lawler (keyboards), David Goldflies (bass) and Frankie Toler (drums).
Taped nearly 24 years ago to the day, the brisk three-song performance launches with Betts leading an energetic take on “Ramblin’ Man” featuring an extended guitar work out. Gregg Allman then grabs an acoustic guitar for a rendition of “Melissa” with Don Toler and Betts also playing acoustics. The full band then gets back into the action for the Allman sung “Straight from the Heart” to finish the appearance.
