After more than 30 years of leading bands Jeff Tweedy will finally release a solo album, kinda, when Sukierae hits stores on September 23. There’s a twist to Jeff’s solo foray as he recruited his son, Spencer, to man the drums on the LP. So instead of releasing Sukierae under his full name, the Wilco front man has dubbed the project “Tweedy.”

While Sukierae isn’t due out until next Tuesday, we don’t have to wait to hear the 20-track LP. NPR is serving up a stream of Sukierae as part of its First Listen series. Jeff and the 18-year-old Spencer provide the vast bulk of the music on the LP, but it also features additional vocals by Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, as well as keyboards by Scott McCaughey (R.E.M.).

Jeff, Spencer and the rest of the Tweedy touring band return to the road on September 19 in Athens for a two-week run that includes performances in NYC, Boston, Buffalo and more.
