On November 11, Sting will issue a new solo album 57th & 9th via Cherrytree/Interscope Records. The LP is being billed as the veteran musician’s first rock/pop LP in decades and features the new single “50,000.”

Produced by Sting’s manager Martin Kierszenbaum, the track “50,000” was written earlier this year in the days following the unexpected death of beloved musician Prince. The 64-year-old Sting was also inspired by issues related to emigration and mortality, recently telling Rolling Stone:

It’s really a comment on how shocked we all are when one of our cultural icons dies: Prince, David [Bowie], Glenn Frey, Lemmy. They are our gods, in a way. So when they die, we have to question our own immortality. Even I, as a rock star, have to question my own. And the sort of bittersweet realization that hubris doesn’t mean anything in the end.

Sting was joined in the studio by drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and guitarist Dominic Miller of Sting’s touring band as well as members of the Kierszenbaum-represented San Antonio-based Last Bandoleros – bassist Diego Navaira and guitarist Jerry Fuentes – to create the 10 songs making up 57th & 9th.
