Stevie Wonder Lifts The DNC To ‘Higher Ground’

Iconic musician Stevie Wonder delivered a speech and performance on Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Wonder played his 1973 hit “Higher Ground” at the United Center backed by his band and dancers in his first public performance since May.

Wednesday marked the third day of the 2024 DNC. The night culminated with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz giving a speech accepting the Democratic Vice Presidential nomination. John Legend and Sheila E. covered Prince's “Let’s Go Crazy” before the Minnesota Governor took the stage. Maren Morris kicked off Wednesday’s festivities by performing “Better Than We Found It.”

Stevie Wonder addressed the crowd one day after Michelle Obama walked on the United Center stage to a recording of his song “Sir Duke.” Wonder urged the audience to “choose courage over complacency,” “choose joy over anger, kindness over recrimination and peace over war.” The longtime Democratic supporter added, “we must keep on keeping on until we truly are a united people of these United States and then we will reach a higher ground.”

Jason Isbell and Mickey Guyton delivered musical performances at the DNC on Monday, while Lil’ Jon, Patti LaBelle, Common and Jonathan McReynolds provided the musical entertainment on Tuesday. P!NK is expected to take the United Center stage tonight ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris accepting the Democratic Presidential nomination.
