Jason Isbell took the stage on Monday at Chicago’s United Center during the first day of the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Isbell played “Something More Than Free,” the title track from his 2015 studio album.

The Alabama native was dressed to the nines in a tux and boots as he strummed his Fender Telecaster in front of a giant American flag with his backing band off to the side. Isbell was making his DNC debut on the day’s musical lineup with Mickey Guyton and James Taylor. The latter was bumped due to time constraints.

Jason Isbell has long been a supporter of the Democratic party. Isbell promised during the 2020 election that “If Biden wins Georgia I’m gonna make a charity covers album of my favorite Georgia songs.” He came through with Georgia Blue the following year.
