Steve Winwood Finally Sits In With Tom Petty & Heartbreakers

When it was revealed that Steve Winwood would open for Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers on the Hypnotic Eye tour, we had high hopes for plenty of collaborations over the course of the run. While the Winwood/Heartbreakers team-up didn’t happen at any of the tour’s first 20+ shows, last night our wish finally came true.

Winwood emerged ten songs into the Heartbreakers’ headlining set at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia to sing and play guitar on Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home.” Steve stuck around and moved over to the organ to then lead Petty and the Heartbreakers through “Gimme Some Lovin'” from his time in the Spencer Davis Group. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers filled the rest of their set with classics and a batch of tunes from Hypnotic Eye.
