Spafford posted pro-shot video of the “Sweet” encore from their recent sold-out show at Soundcheck Studios. The concert on January 25 was a special one for new Spafford keyboardist Cory Schechtman who played the Pembroke, Massachusetts venue many times as a member of The New Motif.
The New Motif was formed on Cape Cod in 2017. Soundcheck Studios served as a home base of sorts for The New Motif in recent years with a five-show January 2022 residency among the numerous gigs played by the quartet at the venue. Cory Schechtman joined Spafford at the start of 2023 following the departure of Andrew “Red” Johnson after an 11-year run in the band.

Fans at the packed Soundcheck Studios cheered for Schechtman throughout the evening. Spafford ended the concert with a take on “Sweet,” a song penned by their friend from Arizona Gary Ukura. The emotion-laden encore came after a show heavy on improv that included three songs spanning over 20 minutes. Guitarist Brian Moss presented Cory Schechtman with flowers before the band left the stage.
