Memphis’ Southern Avenue brought their soul and R&B vibes to Genesis’ 1983 hit “That’s All.” The funky cover of the track from Genesis’ self-titled LP arrived today via Color Red, a platform founded by The New Mastersounds guitarist Eddie Roberts.
Southern Avenue guitarist Ori Naftaly turned on his band to the song while spinning tunes from UK-based artists he appreciates while touring the country. Frontwoman Tierinii Jackson particularly enjoyed songs from Genesis’ Phil Collins era, so when the six-piece was looking for tracks to rework Naftaly brought up the idea of a Genesis smash from the ’80s.

Jackson gracefully delivered Collins’ vocals with accents on just the right notes backed by Ava Jackson. Naftaly, who produced the cover, perfected a funky tone for his guitar work. Keyboardist Jeremy Powell delivered a memorable organ solo, while bassist Evan Sarver and drummer Tikyra Jackson connected on a deep groove.
