Shania Twain took over last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in advance of her autobiographical studio album Little Miss Twain arriving Friday via Republic Nashville. The iconic musician performed the LP’s “Dirty Rosie” after playing a game of “Box Of Lies” and sitting for a revealing interview with Jimmy Fallon.

On Little Miss Twain, Twain pays homage to her roots growing up in Canada, her youth and her late mother. She told Fallon the impending release of the set has her feeling “a little bit like Christmas morning is coming up.”

“It’s such a long, big effort. I write, you know, my own music and everything. So by the time it is ready … it’s a gift to be able to know what people think about it. That’s the gift and the reward for me,” Shania added.

The singer also revealed the story behind the album’s title, explaining that Little Miss Twain traces back to her earliest days as a performer. Before becoming one of country music’s biggest stars, an eight-year-old Eilleen Regina Twain regularly sang in smoky bars throughout Ontario, where she was often the only child onstage.

Twain explained the title track pays tribute to her late mother, who filled nearly every role imaginable during her daughter’s early career, serving as her manager, booking agent, driver and biggest supporter. Sadly, her parents were killed in a car accident when Twain was 22, years before she achieved global superstardom.

Twain also spoke warmly about Taylor Swift after missing the pop superstar’s recent wedding because of her commitment opening for Harry Styles during his record-breaking residency at London’s Wembley Stadium.

“I admire her musicianship and her commitment to telling her stories,” Twain said of Swift. “So I love her. I love everything about her.”

In addition to the interview, Twain joined Fallon for a round of the show’s recurring “Box of Lies” game before returning later in the episode to perform “Dirty Rosie.” The autobiographical song recalls the faded red work truck Twain drove as a child after learning to drive at just 10 years old out of necessity while growing up in the Canadian woods.
