Run For The Roses – A Benefit for the Rex Foundation :: 12.03.11 :: The Fillmore :: San Francisco, CA
Run for the Roses: A Benefit for the Rex Foundation brought together a colossally talented assortment of mostly Bay Area musicians to celebrate the music of Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter and The Jerry Garcia Band. The first of three sets featured three-fourths of The Mother Hips – Tim Bluhm, Greg Loiacono and Scott Thunes – with Nicki Bluhm and keyboard whiz Danny Eisenberg (Acacia, Mother Hips). The second set featured John Kadlecik (Furthur), Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band), Greg Anton (Zero), Mike Sugar (Jambay) and Sunshine Garcia Becker (Furthur), and then all of the musicians were joined by Railroad Earth‘s Tim Carbone, John Morgan Kimock and Kadlecik’s wife Katy Gaughan for a reportedly awesome Everyone Orchestra free-for-all with instigator-in-chief Matt Butler. While most of us weren’t lucky enough to be inside The Fillmore, ace shooter Susan J. Weiand was and shares the night with us.
