In 1978 Jerry Garcia put out his fourth solo studio album, Cats Under The Stars the first and only studio LP to be issued under the Jerry Garcia Band moniker. Round Records will reissue Cats Under The Cars on 180g vinyl on October 13.

The version of the Jerry Garcia Band found on Cats Under The Stars finds Jerry backed by Keith Godchaux, John Kahn, Ron Tutt and Donna Godchaux. Garcia called the LP his favorite during a 1981 interview with David Gans and Blair Jackson, “That’s the one that I’m happiest with, from every point of view in which I operate on that record.” Jerry felt similarly a decade later as Blair Jackson’s Garcia: An American Life quotes Jerry in the early ’90s as saying, “As far as I’m concerned Cats Under The Stars is my most successful record – even though it’s my least successful record! I’ve always loved it and it just never went anywhere.

The new vinyl reissue features re-mastered audio by Fred Kevorkian with lacquers cut by Ron McMaster at Capitol Studios and pressed to 180gram marbled gold vinyl by Quality Record Pressings. The Marbled Gold vinyl is pressed in a limited edition of 5,000 pieces with individually numbered foil-stamped jackets.

Cats Under The Stars includes such Garcia/Hunter classics as the title track,” “Reuben & Cerise,” “Gomorrah” and “Palm Sunday.” Head here for pre-order information.
