The Rolling Stones Fit Rarities Into 2018 ‘No Filter’ Tour Opener In Dublin
After 56 years a band, legendary rockers The Rolling Stones are still going strong. The group kicked off the 2018 European leg of their No Filter Tour on Thursday night at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. While the show featured plenty of staples, The Stones also worked a pair of bust outs into the mix.
Core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts are joined on the run by bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Chuck Leavell, multi-instrumentalist Matt Clifford, saxophonist Karl Denson, multi-instrumentalist Tim Ries and vocalists Sasha Allen, and Bernard Fowler. Last night’s concert was The Rolling Stones’ first in Ireland since August 18, 2007. As per Rolling Stone’s report, “an unusually chatter Jagger” talked about the band’s 1965 visit to Adelphi Cinema and talked about hanging in town ahead of the show.
The Rolling Stones opened last night’s concert with a run of “Sympathy For The Devil,” “Tumbling Dice” and “Paint It Black.” Jagger then led his mates on blues covers “Just Your Fool” and “Ride ‘Em On Down,” a pair of songs the band recorded for 2016’s Blue & Lonesome. The first big surprise of the evening was the return of Tattoo You track “Neighbours” for the first time since August 13, 2003. Next, The Stones played “Wild Horses” which won out in fan voting over “Moonlight Mile,” “Angie” and “Far Away Eyes.”
Jagger & Co. then dug into beloved staples “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “It’s Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It)” and “Honky Tonk Women.” Mick introduced the band and then left the stage for the Keith Richards-fronted portion of the show. The famed guitarist led “Before They Make Me Run” and the first take on Voodoo Lounge’s “The Worst” since October 30, 2005. Jagger came back after the evening’s second bust out for a raucous “Miss You.” From there, The Rolling Stones brought the set to a close with runs through “Midnight Rambler,” “Start Me Up,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Brown Sugar.
The Rolling Stones said farewell with an encore of “Gimme Shelter” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Next up for the group is a performance in London on May 22.
