Robert Walter’s 20th Congress will issue their new album Spacesuit on September 21 via Royal Potato Family. The record features the now available lead single “Current Futures.”

Keyboardist Robert Walter recruited guitarist Chris Alford, bassist Victor Little and drummer Simon Lott to record the follow-up to the 2013 LP Get Thy Bearings. “Science fiction movies, comic books and art” were said to infrom the nine songs on Spacesuit which was also influenced by dub reggae, krautrock and early jazz fusion.

“I wanted to break myself out of writing music about music,” Walter stated. “I remember when I was a kid I loved all the mysterious qualities about science fiction, comic books and movies. I started looking at those kinds of things, trying to find something to get influenced by other than musical genre worship.”

Walter, whose various projects include Mike Gordon’s band and Greyboy Allstars, also was inspired by the 2013 documentary, Jodorowsky’s Dune, which chronicled Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky and his failed 1970s film adaptation of the science fiction novel Dune.

“I always want to make the record that I wish I found going through the record stacks,” Walter added. “I love the idea of trying to create an imaginary film or a record from 1972 that you wish you could buy.”

A Kickstarter campaign is available for Spacesuit pre-orders. Check out Walter’s Spotify Playlist of Spacesuit inspirations here and stream “Current Futures” below:
