Watch Robert Randolph Perform For Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Robert Randolph recently appeared on a web segment for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. The pedal steel ace gave an interview as well as a short performance for the Rock Hall’s Sounds of Black History virtual event.

To kick things off, Robert chatted a bit about coming out of the gospel scene and learning to play what is called “sacred steel.” Robert talked about how he played drums in church at first. His father then bought him a lap steel guitar which he put under the bed and forgot about. Then after seeing someone play the sacred steel at a church revival when he was 16, Randolph said, “Let me go see what this thing under the bed is…That’s when I really started getting into it.”
