Robert Plant & Alison Krauss shared a live cover of blues standard “When The Levee Breaks.” The duo released the Memphis Minnie/Kansas Joe McCoy song to herald their Can’t Let Go Tour, which is now underway.
Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy wrote “When The Levee Breaks” following the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and recorded the song in 1929. Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin included a version of the song as the closer on their landmark 1971 self-titled album, commonly referred to as Led Zeppelin IV.

“When The Levee Breaks” has been a staple in Alison Krauss and Robert Plant’s live repertoire. Featuring haunting fiddle from Stuart Duncan, Variety described the Plant/Krauss version as “warm, mystical and at times slightly foreboding.”
Krauss and Plant’s release of “When The Levee Breaks” — the duo’s first single since their 2021 album, Raise The Roof — features Krauss and Plant’s ace band: Duncan, guitarist JD McPherson, drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Dennis Crouch and multi-instrumentalist Viktor Krauss.
