Remembering Joe Strummer: The Clash ‘Audio Ammunition’ Documentary

The Clash frontman Joe Strummer unexpectedly died following a heart attack on this date in 2002. A key player in the early development of what became known as punk rock, Strummer was sadly only 50 years old at the time of his untimely passing.

In remembrance of Strummer and his significant contributions to rock music with “the only band that matters” here’s a look back at The Clash through a documentary examining five of their albums. The five-part Audio Ammunition feature profiles the making of The Clash’s 1977 self-titled LP, their 1978 follow-up Give ‘Em Enough Rope and their acclaimed 1979 album London Calling.

The final two segments explore the process of creating 1980’s Sandinista! and the final The Clash LP recorded by the group’s classic lineup, 1982’s Combat Rock. Strummer can be seen being interviewed and in behind-the-scenes footage from The Clash’s successful career. Founding The Clash members Mick Jones, Topper Headon and Paul Simonon are also interviewed across the five parts that can be viewed below:
