DUANE SINGS ON RARE RECORDING OF FEATURING MOST OF ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND
In March of 1969 guitarist Duane Allman returned to Jacksonville, FL after a stint as a session player in Muscle Shoals, AL. Allman quickly put together the band that would go on to become The Allman Brothers Band, with guitarist Dickey Betts, drummers Jaimoe and Butch Trucks, bassist Berry Oakley and keyboardist Reese Wynans. This new group had a few jam sessions and played a few shows before Duane asked his brother Gregg to replace Wynans.
Recordings of the Allman Brothers Band with Wynans are few and far between, so we were excited to see a purported live show from March 30, 1969 had surfaced on YouTube.
Here’s more info from the uploader:
This is regarded as the first live show of the Allman Brothers Band, and was recorded just four days after their official foundation. Gregg hadn’t joined the band at that point. Besides some oscillation and abrupt cuts and fades the sound is pretty good considering the date which this took place, more than 40 years ago, March 1969.
Track List:
1. Don’t Want You No More 2. Rock Me Baby 3. Crossroads 4. Born In Chicago 5. Willie Jean Jam 6. Born Under A Bad Sign 7. She Has Funny Cars 8. Hey Joe 9. New Shoes Blues 10. Travellin’ Music Jam
Let’s check it out:
