Northern California folk trio Rainbow Girls recently released their new album, Welcome To Whatever. The nine-track LP includes the singles “City Slickers,” “Compassion to the Nth Degree” and “No Limits.”

Welcome To Whatever follows Rainbow Girls’ 2021 EP, Rolling Dumpster Fire. Crowdfunded by the group’s dedicated fanbase, the new record “feels to them like a sort of self titled album, rich with the soothing tenderness, honesty and political spirit inherent within their band,” as per a press release.

Standout tracks include “City Slickers,” which the band says is an ode to San Francisco but also comments on how the city has changed. “It feels like there is a loss of personality and a truly sad loss of inclusivity, but every once in a while the city itself will still shine through,” the trio of Vanessa May, Erin Chapin and Caitlin Gowdey noted.

NPR called the politically-charged “Compassion to the Nth Degree” a “Sour Patch Kids candy of a song” while “No Limits” features Rainbow Girls’ fellow Bay Area group The California Honeydrops.
