Pro-Shot: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Weaves ‘Day Tripper’ & ‘King Solomon’s’ Within ‘Bird Song’

On December 30 Joe Russo’s Almost Dead continued a four show New Year’s Run with their first of two consecutive performances at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York to close out 2016. Today, the five-piece has shared professionally-shot video of a highlight from December 30th as a special Friday Afternoon Edition of Rad Tracks Thursday.

Towards the end of their first set on December 30, JRAD hinted at beginning the Grateful Dead’s “Bird Song.” Instead, they swerved into a debut cover of “Day Tripper” by The Beatles. After two verses the quintet changed direction once more and began “Bird Song” for real. The fun wasn’t done as Almost Dead jammed “Bird Song” into the complex instrumental “King Solomon’s Marbles.” Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger didn’t complete “King Solomon’s,” instead embarking on a fruitful jam that eventually gave way to a reprise of “Bird Song.”
