Prince ‘The Loring Park Sessions’

While Saturday Stream typically offers a weekly Spotify Playlist, today’s exception features notorious (but not completely against) holdout Prince on a different platform. Known best for his exceptional guitar skills, Prince was also adept at playing a number of other instruments including drums and keyboards. Back in 1977 a teenage Prince sat at the keys with two other musicians for an incredible recording session in Minneapolis.

Joined by early Prince band members bassist André Cymone and drummer Bobby Z (who also is a member of the recently reunited The Revolution), a 19-year-old Prince jammed with the rhythm section at a rehearsal space in his former manager Owen Husney’s office in the Loring Park neighborhood of Minneapolis. Broken up into eight individual segments, the all instrumental jazz fusion tracks were apparently completely improvised. Give a listen to the incredibly funky Loring Park Sessions below:
