For this week’s installment of Saturday Stream we’re turning the reins over to President Barack Obama who shared two Spotify playlists of his favorite summertime songs. The POTUS posted a “Day” and “Night” summer playlist each featuring 20 tracks he personally selected comprising over three hours of diverse music.
Not all of the 40 tracks are our favorites and it’s perfectly fine to skip over some of the more suspect selections, but there are plenty of quality cuts from the president’s apparent wide ranging taste in tunes. Bob Dylan, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Sly & The Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin and The Isley Brothers are among the 20 songs on the POTUS Summer Day Playlist. Making up the POTUS Summer Night Playlist includes the likes of Miles Davis, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, Leonard Cohen, John Coltrane, Al Green, and many more.
The playlists don’t rely on just the classics as cuts by Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, Beyonce, Coldplay, Florence + The Machine, Brandi Carlile, Okkervil River, John Legend, Lianne La Havas, The Lumineers, Mary J. Blige, Mos Def and Erykah Badu are also represented. Color us impressed, Mr. President, these are a couple of fine summertime soundtracks.
