Porno for Pyros played their first proper concert in 24 years on Sunday as part of the Welcome To Rockville festival. The band led by Perry Farrell treated fans at the Daytona Beach International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida to a mix of originals and Jane’s Addiction classics.
Porno For Pyros reunited to take over Jane’s Addiction’s slot on the lineup as guitarist Dave Navarro continues to recover from a “long bout with COVID.” The set came after a number of Welcome To Rockville performances were canceled due to weather including Guns N’ Roses’ headlining set on Saturday.
Farrell was joined by Peter DiStefeno, Mike Watt and Stephen Perkins’ drum tech after the drummer was unable to perform due to what Perry described as a “bad infection.” Porno For Pyros, who previously linked up for two songs in 2020 as part of a Lollapalooza livestream special, opened the set with “Porpoise Head” from 1996’s Good God’s Urge. The LP was also represented in the setlist by its title track and “Tahitian Moon.”
Porno For Pyros also played six songs from their self-titled 1993 debut album including “Pets,” its title track, “Blood Rag,” “Cursed Female,” “Meija” and “Sadness.” Additionally, the quartet looked to the Jane’s Addiction repertoire for “Ain’t No Right” and the set-closing run of “1%,” “Mountain Song” and “Stop.”
