Salt Lake City string outfit Pixie & The Partygrass Boys confirmed a new covers album, The Chicken Coop, Vol. 1, due out on May 19 via Americana Vibes. The quintet also shared the single, “Don’t Leave Me This Way.”

The Chicken Coop, Vol. 1 follows Pixie & The Partygrass Boys — Katia “Pixie” Racine (Vocals, Ukulele), Amanda Grapes Dellinger (Fiddle, Vocals), Andrew Nelson (Guitar, Vocals), Ben Weiss (Mandolin, Vocals) and Zach Downes (Bass, Vocals) — 2021 LP, Snake Creek. Press materials detailed the rising Utah string band:

Featuring soulful, often harmonic vocals and solid strings and rhythm, this tight-knit crew was born out of the belly of a warm cabin after a long day on the slopes drinking whiskey and singing into the night. Drawing influence from the bluegrass roots of Appalachia and transporting it straight to the Western edge of the Rockies, Pixie and The Partygrass Boys create a uniquely American sound. Inspired by landscapes from coast to coast, the group combines classical training with jazz, Broadway, pop-punk, and having a damn good time.

Pixie & The Partygrass Boys previewed The Chicken Coop, Vol. 1 with “Don’t Leave Me This Way.” Penned by Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert, “Dont Leave Me This Way” was originally released in 1975 by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass. Thelma Huston found commercial success with the song in 1976.
