Slightly Stoopid & Guests :: 4.21.16 :: TRI Studios :: San Rafael, CA

As previously reported, TRI Studios hosted a performance by Slightly Stoopid and a number of guests last Thursday that was broadcast worldwide via Qello. Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, who owns TRI, as well as Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore and saxophonist Karl Denson were among the musicians who sat-in during the show. Weir guested on the Dead classic “Franklin’s Tower” as well as the finale cover of “Purple Rain” along with Moore and Denson played in honor of Prince. Here’s how Jon Phillips (Slightly Stoopid Management/Silverback Music) described the decision behind performing the tribute song:

Yesterday, we all woke up to shock and dismay. We were eating breakfast in the hotel nearby Bobby’s TRI studio and everyone was recounting the incomparable effect Prince had as an artist. Some of us were kinda kicking around the idea of perhaps what kind of a Prince song we could play later that night. Then my phone rings and it’s Weir’s manager who tells me Bobby wants to know if the guys (in Slightly Stoopid) know any Prince in their repertoire.

Other guests who joined Slightly Stoopid at TRI included Ganja Farmer’s Marlon Asher and Aggrolites’ Roger Rivas. Photographer Sterling Munksgard was on hand to capture the collaborative evening, view his photo gallery and a pair of officially shared videos below.
