Bruce Springsteen Joins Bleachers In Asbury Park For Tom Waits Cover & More

Jack Antonoff and his band Bleachers headlined their annual Shadow Of The City event on Friday at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The annual festival saw New Jersey legend Bruce Springsteen join Bleachers for a pair of songs.

Taking place on the Stone Pony’s outdoor summer stage, Shadow Of The City was originally scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend but was rescheduled due to inclement weather. The 2026 lineup also saw performances by Real Estate, Toadies, Grace Ives and Bike Routes.

Bleachers opened their headline set with “sideways,” off their new record, everyone for ten minutes. Antonoff and company focused heavily on the May 2026 LP, performing an additional six songs off everyone for ten minutes including “the van,” “dirty wedding dress” and “you and forever.”

The band also fit in older favorites such as “Rollercoaster,” “I Wanna Get Better” and “Don’t Take the Money.” A highlight of the evening went down when Springsteen emerged as Bleachers worked their way through a cover of Tom Waits’ “Jersey Girl.” Springsteen and The E Street Band began covering the song in 1981 following its release in ’80. The Boss elicited a big rise from the audience when he emerged for the anthemic “sha-la-la-la” refrain.

Springsteen stuck around for a rendition of Bleachers’ “Chinatown.” The Boss previously sat in with the band on the song from the 2021 Bleachers album Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night at Radio City Music Hall in 2022.
