Classic rock acts Santana and Journey commenced a series of co-headlining performances last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Guitarist Carlos Santana was joined by members of the classic Santana lineup of the late ’60s and early ’70s including Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Michael Carabello and Michael Shrieve for a portion of his set. The original lineup performed on “Soul Sacrifice,” “Evil Ways,” “Jingo” “Black Magic Woman,” cuts from Santana IV (due out tomorrow) and more ahead of the current Santana lineup coming out for the end of the set. Journey’s performance was their Madison Square Garden debut and marked the return of drummer Steve Smith to the fold for the first time since September 6, 1983. Schon was a busy man as he played on all of Journey’s set in addition to his time on stge with Santana. Photographer Joe Russo was on hand to capture scenes from last night’s show:
