Fiya Fest :: 4.27.16 :: Mardi Gras World :: New Orleans, LA
The 2016 installment of Fiya Fest took place on Wednesday at Mardi Gras World in New Orleans. Over 95 musicians came together in a bevy of formations and lineups at Fiya Fest’s three stages to benefit The New Orleans’ Musicians’ Clinic. Members of Galactic, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and The Revivalists came together to help close out Fiya Fest ’16 with a Revivalactic Hall performance featuring material from all three acts and beyond including Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and The Revivalists’ “Wish I Knew You.” Soulive and The Shady Horns teamed with legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker for a performance that contained takes on “Pass The Peas,” “Shake Everything You’ve Got” and more.
Master drummer Bernard Purdie put together an insane group of talent for his set such as bassist Oteil Burbridge, guitarist Leo Nocentelli and vocalist Erica Falls, while a Funkfiya set saw Zigaboo Modeliste share the stage with Ivan Neville, Karl Denson, Tony Hall, Big Sam, Jennifer Hartswick and others. Funk supergroup Dr. Klaw paired up with percussionist Cyril Neville at Fiya Fest ’16 which also hosted sets from Robert Randolph & The Family Band, The Funky Meters, Nth Power, The Soul Rebels, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band and many more.
