New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Day 2 :: 4.23.16 :: New Orleans, LA
The second day of the 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival saw headliners Pearl Jam play a career-spanning set and dedicate “Even Flow,” which was covered by Prince, to the late musician. The Seattle rockers concluded with Skerik leading a horn section on The Who’s “The Real Me” and Red Hot Chilli Peppers members Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer and Kings Of Leon’s Nathan Followill sitting-in on Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” [see video below]. Renowned singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs delivered a fan-pleasing set featuring his classics such as “Until You Come Back to Me,” “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle.” Legendary performer Van Morrison also offered a hits-centric set, serving up renditions of “Brown Eyed Girl,” “Gloria,” “Wild Night” and “Moondance.”
Local NOLA musician and The Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli performed on the Acura Stage joined by keyboard wizard Bernie Worrell, drummer Stanton Moore and other guests. That set was followed by one from local resident Anders Osborne who was joined by John Papa Gros. The New Orleans vibe continued on the same stage with a subsequent appearance by funk outfit Galactic who welcomed vocalist Erica Falls to help lead the group. Other highlights from Day Two included appearances by Nigel Hall, Papa Mali, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and more.
