As reported, Phish will host their first festival since 2015 this summer. Today, the band confirmed details of Mondegreen, a four-day event coming to The Woodlands in Dover, Delaware from August 15 – 18.

Mondegreen marks the band’s 11th self-produced festival and first at The Woodlands, longtime home to the Firefly Festival. The four-day event promises “an array of interactive fan experiences, specially curated regional food and drink, art installations, and much more” in addition to Phish’s performances as per an announcement.

Travel packages for the festival will be available this Thursday, January 18 starting at 11 a.m. ET. Weekend passes and camping for Mondegreen then go on sale this Friday, January 19 at 11 a.m. ET. Phish’s last festival was Magnaball held in 2015 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York which followed Superball at the site in 2011. The band was due to return to Watkins Glen in 2018 but an event dubbed “Curveball” was called off by state and local officials.

The jam quartet’s history of performing in Delaware is a short one. Phish’s only shows in the state took place at the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware on February 13, 1993 and April 18, 1994.

So what is “Mondegreen?” According to Merriam-Webster, Mondegreen is defined as “a word or phrase that results from a mishearing especially of something recited or sung.” Check out an example detailed by Maria Konnikova for Merriam-Webster below:

One of the reasons that “Excuse me while I kiss this guy” substituted for Jimi Hendrix’s “Excuse me while I kiss the sky” remains one of the most widely reported mondegreens of all time can be explained in part by frequency. It’s much more common to hear of people kissing guys than skies. Expectations, too, play a role. You’re much more likely to mishear “Cry Me a River” as “Crimean River” if you’ve recently been discussing the situation in Ukraine.

Phish next takes the stage for Phish: Riviera Maya 2024 at Moon Palace in Riviera Cancún, Mexico. The latest installment of the band’s all-inclusive destination event first held in 2016 is set for February 21 – 24.
