Phish Delivers Top-Shelf ‘2001’ At The Met Philly: Pro-Shot Video

Phish recently performed a historic concert at the 3,500-capacity Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House. The exclusive Met show, put on by satellite radio provider SiriusXM, is memorable for a few reasons — a “Tweezer” laced throughout chief among them. But it also contained a top-shelf “2001″ as the penultimate song of the second set.
Technically titled “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” Phish’s take on the theme from Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke’s 1968 sci-fi epic, 2001: A Space Odyssey, piggybacks on Brazilian pianist Eumir Deodato’s 1973 version of the iconic composition. The Vermont quartet would debut their rendition in 1993 just down the street from the Met at the Mann. The Met version saw drummer Jon Fishman adding some marimba lumina during a deliciously dark and spacey jam section. Check out pro-shot video below:
