Jeff Tweedy and Phil Lesh’s Wilco set will also feature Jeff’s bandmate, guitarist Nels Cline. Additionally, the Phil Lesh & Friends lineup for Sacred Rose includes keyboardist Jeff Chimenti (Dead & Company), multi-instrumentalist Karl Denson (The Rolling Stones), guitarists Stu Allen and Grahame Lesh (Midnight North), drummer John Molo (Phil Lesh Quintet) and vocalist Elliott Peck (Midnight North).
“Nels and I are honored to be asked to join Phil and Friends for Sacred Rose. There has been so much about Phil and the Dead to be inspired by over the years, from their longtime musical brotherhood to their wonderful and incomparable music, to their relentless touring and longevity,” explained Jeff Tweedy in a press release. “But perhaps the biggest inspiration is their dedication to the community that has grown up around them. This is a trait that we in Wilco deeply appreciate and have aimed to emulate over the years. There’s nothing better than playing music with your friends, for your friends.”
Philco will be the first time Phil Lesh has played publicly with Jeff Tweedy since the bassist sat-in with Wilco sans bass to sing “Ripple” at the Mountain Aire Festival in 1999. Cline made three Phil Lesh & Friends appearances in 2014, while Phil and Grahame honored Wilco by covering “Misunderstood” with The Terrapin Family Band at Chicago’s Thalia Hall in March of 2019.
Khruangbin, The War On Drugs, Black Pumas, Umphrey’s McGee, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Goose, STS9, Greensky Bluegrass, Kamasi Washington, Animal Collective and Margo Price are among other acts set to perform at Sacred Rose 2022. Check out the full lineup by clicking below:
