Can’t Stop The Train – Tribute To Jerry Garcia :: 08.17.16 :: The Fillmore :: San Francisco, CA
On Wednesday, The Rex Foundation, in partnership with the Jake Peavy Foundation, held a benefit concert at The Fillmore in San Francisco billed as Can’t Stop The Train – A Tribute To Jerry Garcia. San Francisco Giants pitcher Jake Peavy (founder of the Jake Peavy Foundation) anchored the show with his band The Outsiders who were joined by an all-star roster of performers. Among those sharing the stage with Peavy were Col. Bruce Hampton, Jeff Sipe, Jackie Greene, Jennifer Hartswick, Tim Flannery, Ross James, Stu Allen, Midnight North members, North Mississippi Allstars’ Cody Dickinson and Luther Dickinson, and others.
The special guest of the night, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh emerged toward the end of the show to sit-in on “Shakedown Street,” “Sugaree” and “U.S. Blues.” Other highlights included Giants coach Tim Flannery playing “Brown Eyed Women,” Col. Bruce leading a romp through “Smokestack Lightnin,’” a take on “Deal” that included nearly all of the performers on stage at once and Hartswick’s heartfelt rendering of “Brokedown Palace” to start the encore.
