Phil Lesh & Friends Wrap The Capitol Theatre Run With Melvin Seals

Sunday night, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh’s Phil Lesh & Friends wrapped a three night stand at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Longtime Jerry Garcia Band keyboardist Melvin Seals appeared once again after making his debut with the ensemble one night prior. Lesh and Seals were accompanied by guitarists Warren Haynes and Eric Krasno, drummer Tony Leone and percussionist Alex Koford for the finale.

Haynes led the group through the opening take on Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour” which eventually moved into Lesh’s original Dead deep-cut rarity “Pride Of Cucamonga.” Warren also led the six-piece through the Garcia/Robert Hunter-penned “Reuben & Cerise” and Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” followed by Krasno taking the lead on J.J. Cale’s “After Midnight.” A rocking “Cold Rain And Snow” filled the first set closer slot.

The second half opened with a pair of Dead tunes, as “The Wheel” was followed by Haynes leading a lengthy take on Brent Mydland’s “Just A Little Light.” The subsequent “ Help On The Way” took a typical turn into “Slipknot!” but instead of “Franklin’s Tower,” Lesh and the crew dropped into Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody.” Phil proceeded with “Eyes Of The World” before busting out Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade Of Pale.” The Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain” closed out the second set and the “Not Fade Away” encore capped the three night stand at The Cap.
