Phil Lesh & Friends Play Free Show At Terrapin Crossroads
By Scott Bernstein May 5, 2016 • 7:57 am PDT

Last night, Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California hosted a free performance from the venue’s proprietor and Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and his Phil Lesh & Friends ensemble. Phil was joined for a set in the Grate Room by guitarist/vocalists Grahame Lesh, Ross James and Scott Law as well as keyboardist Jason Crosby, drummer/vocalist Alex Koford and vocalist Nicki Bluhm.
Phil Lesh & Friends opened with a “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” pairing that gave way to a “Shakedown Street” sung by Law. The group then played “Magic Jelly Bean” from Koford’s Col. & The Mermaids band. From there, Grahame led the ensemble on “He’s Gone” > “New Speedway Boogie” before Nicki took a turn in the spotlight for a cover of the Eagles’ “Desperado” and to aid James in singing “The Music Never Stopped.” Law then fronted the group on “Leave The Leavin’ Up To You,” while Phil’s lead vocal contribution to the evening came on “Eyes Of The World.”
Yesterday marked the anniversary of the Kent State shootings in 1970 that led Neil Young to pen “Ohio” for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Phil & Friends ended their set at Terrapin Crossroads with a cover of “Ohio.” The band then said farewell with a “U.S. Blues” encore. Tonight, Terrapin Crossroads hosts a Cinco De Mayo Bash featuring Lebo & Friends with special guest Phil Lesh.
