Southern jam quartet Perpetual Groove returned to their home venue this past Friday night, the Georgia Theatre in Athens. PGroove treated fans at the Georgia Theatre to one long set and an encore. Within the set, the foursome was joined by a horn section for a Peter Gabriel cover.
Guitarist Brock Butler, keyboardist Matt McDonald, drummer Albert Suttle and bassist Adam Perry opened with a cover of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s “Hand Covers Bruise” from The Social Network soundtrack. The quartet then unleashed a wild “Green Tea” sequence that included “Two Shores,” “Three Weeks” and their version of “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” within portions of “Green Tea.” After fitting “Robot Waltz” into “TSM2,” Perpetual Groove brought out the horn section from local band The Funk Brotherhood for a take on Peter Gabriel’s mega-hit “Sledgehammer.” Friday’s set ended with “Sun Dog,” “Paper Dolls” and “Cairo” ahead of a “Walkin’ In Place” encore.
