Update 5/22 2 p.m. PT: Paul McCartney’s spokesman has issued the following statement, “Since contracting a virus last week that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo. He will make a complete recovery and has been ordered to take a few days rest. Paul has been extremely moved by all the messages and well wishes he has received from fans all over the world.”

Our thoughts are with Paul McCartney, who according to a Japanese news outlet has been hospitalized in Toyko with a viral infection. Macca recently canceled his Japanese and South Korean dates due to the illness he’s battling.

Now that the Asian dates have been cancelled, next up for McCartney is his U.S. Tour. The two-month tour is scheduled to begin on June 14 in Lubbock, TX. Paul’s reps have yet to issue a statement confirming Sankei Sports newspaper’s reports of his hospitalization. We’ll update this post once more information about Paul’s condition is revealed.

Tokyo hasn’t exactly been kind to Macca over the years as Paul was arrested at Tokyo International Airport on January 16, 1980 for a carrying marijuana into the country. He then spent nine days in a Japanese jail cell. McCartney has since returned to Japan a number of times over the years.
