Irish rockers U2 kicked off the second North American leg of a tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday night. U2 was joined by old friend Patti Smith as part of the lengthy concert in Detroit. Beck opened the show and included a taste of Steely Dan’s “Josie” in honor of Walter Becker.

Bono & Co. stuck to a similar script as other shows on the tour at Ford Field. Up first was a batch of early classics including “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “New Year’s Day,” “Bad” and “Pride (In The Name Of Love).” Next up was a run through each and every Joshua Tree track in the order found on the original LP. Smith emerged for “Mothers Of The Disappeared,” the final song on the LP. U2 threw a “People Have The Power” snippet into “Mothers Of The Disappeared.” Patti last sat-in with U2 on “Mothers Of The Disappeared” on July 25 in Paris.

U2 returned to the stage for a six-song encore that began with “Beautiful Day,” which also featured a “People Have The Power” snippet. The show rolled on with “Elevation” and “Vertigo” as well as “Mysterious Ways” and “Ultraviolet (Light My Way).” For the finale, U2 ended the leg-opener with “One.” The band now heads to Buffalo for a show on Tuesday night.
