Opening Night | Wilco Returns For First Show Of 2014

One of the longest layoffs in Wilco history ended last night in Columbus, OH; when the band took the stage for the first time since October 12, 2013. Jeff Tweedy and Co. treated fans to a career-spanning setlist of 26 tunes, including a five-song encore, at LC Pavilion on Wednesday night.

Wilco, who will soon celebrate their 20th anniversary with a rarities box set and best-of collection as well as an October tour, opened with “Misunderstood” and the fitting lyric “When you’re back in your old neighborhood.” Over the course of the evening Wilco mixed some of their most-beloved originals (“Via Chicago,” “Handshake Drugs,” “Jesus, Etc.) with a handful of live rarities (“Cars Can’t Escape,” “A Magazine Called Sunset”). Tweedy didn’t offer too much of the banter he’s known for, but did note “It’s good to be back in the saddle” during the encore.

Tonight, Wilco performs in Akron, OH before they head to Arrington, VA for a pair of sets at the Lockn’ Festival.
