Alabama Shakes began a Spring Tour in support of Sound & Color last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. While travel issues prevented Songhoy Blues from opening, Alabama Shakes presented an extended set to make sure the capacity crowd were treated to plenty of music.

The rockers opened with “Dunes” off Sound & Color, the first of nine songs they’d play from the soon-to-be-released album. Brittany Howard & Co. also delivered a heaping helping of songs from their 2012 debut Boys & Girls with “Heartbreaker,” “Rise To The Sun” and “Be Mine” among the seven tunes off the album to make last night’s setlist. Alabama Shakes closed out the show with a four-song encore of “Sound & Color,” “On Your Way,” “You Ain’t Alone” and “Over My Head.” The band returns to the Beacon Theatre again tonight.
