Noah Kahan Apologizes For Cancelation & Welcomes Aaron Dessner At Citi Field

Noah Kahan took the stage at Citi Field on Sunday one day after he was forced to cancel his Saturday night concert at the Queens ballpark due to inclement weather. Kahan apologized to fans for the cancelation and later brought out The National's Aaron Dessner to perform a song the pair co-wrote and co-produced together.

Initially, Citi Field officials canceled the opening acts and delayed doors for the Saturday night performance around 3:30 p.m. The show was canceled altogether at 6 p.m. as severe storms swept through the area. Many fans took to social media to express their anger at such a late announcement, with several particularly upset Kahan didn’t reschedule the show.

“I just want to apologize for the cancellation of our show last night. I know you guys are all here, but I don’t expect any sympathy at all. I’m so fucking sorry for the folks that sat all day out in the rain and traveled. I’ve been thinking about you guys, and I’m really sorry,” Kahan said.

“I promise, if you’ve known me, I’ve been touring for about nine years. I’ve probably played about 500 shows and I’ve canceled six in my life, and they’ve only ever been when we cannot do anything else but cancel the show. And I promise you, I would play in a fucking volcano, the hole of a volcano for y’all. And I, I’m so sorry,” Kahan continued.

“I promise you we did everything, everything we could. Weird shit to try to reschedule it, and I’m sorry. I just feel horrible, and I know people will see this and I just want you to know I’m really sorry. You deserve better than that.”

The weather was beautiful on Sunday as Kahan treated the sold-out crowd to a 26-song performance. Kahan kept with his typical The Great Divide Tour script of mixing songs from his recently released album with cuts from his breakthrough 2022 album Stick Season. Last night’s show included the tour debut of Stick Season’s “Strawberry Wine,” “Maine” off his Cape Elizabeth EP and the unreleased “Pain Is Cold Water.”

Aaron Dessner emerged at the start of the encore for “End Of August,” the opening track from The Great Divide. Dessner played electric guitar on one of six songs off the album he co-wrote and co-produced with Kahan and Gabe Simon. The Great Divide was recorded in part at Dessner’s famed Long Pond studio in Upstate New York. Kahan went on to close the show with “Stick Season” as fireworks filled the sky.
