As we reported, a Rex Foundation benefit will take place at The Fillmore in San Francisco on Saturday night. The event has been dubbed “Reflections: A Tribute To Jerry Garcia” and will feature the year’s only San Francisco appearance from guitarist Steve Kimock & Friends. Rex Foundation recently revealed Nicki Bluhm has been added to the lineup.

Kimock’s band will include keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, bassist Bobby Vega and drummer Jay Lane and the show is billed as featuring “many special guests” with David Bromberg the first of them to be revealed. Steve Kimock and Friends will pay tribute to Jerry Garcia’s solo work, such as his collaborations with Merl Saunders and the various incarnations of the Jerry Garcia Band. The guitarist will also honor some of the influences he shares with Jerry, including such legendary artists as Roy Buchanan, Freddie King, BB King and Mike Bloomfield.

A batch of general admission tickets are up for grabs via LiveNation.com. Rex Foundation was created by the Grateful Dead and Family in 1983 to provide philanthropic grassroots support. The organization, which is named after longtime GD crew member Rex Jackson who tragically died in 1976, aims to help secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure their cultural survival, build a stronger community and educate children and adults everywhere.

Check out our recent chat with Rex Foundation Executive Director Cameron Sears for more on the organization’s efforts.
