Newport Folk Festival Unveils ‘Revival Radio’ Lineup & Schedule

Newport Folk Festival organizers revealed the lineup and schedule for Revival Radio, a series of archived broadcasts featuring sets that took place at the legendary event. Revival Radio will air via the festival’s website as well as on WFUV, WMVY and WEXT from Friday, July 31 – Sunday, August 2.
The series kicks off at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT each day and runs through 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT. Friday, July 31 – Sunday, August 2 were the dates the 2020 Newport Folk Festival were supposed to take place before the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic led to a pause in live music.

Sets slated to air on Friday, July 31 include Courtney Barnett (2018), Jack White (2014) and Roger Waters with My Morning Jacket and Lucius (2015). The action starts with “Fan Favorites” from various artists recorded between 1965 and 2018. Additional programs on Friday featuring various artists are “Under The Covers” and “Blues At Newport.” Plus, there will be a “Surprise Set” and the programming will end with last year’s “She’s An Eagle” set featuring Dolly Parton and The Highwomen.
More “Fan Favorites” from Newport Folk history starts Saturday’s broadcast ahead of the 2017 tribute to Bill Withers, a compilation of bluegrass highlights and 2018’s Beneath The Sacred Mountain. Sets from Wilco (2017) and John Prine (2017) lead into 2018’s A Change Is Gonna Come all-star performance to close out the day.

“Sunday Vibes” begins Sunday’s broadcast and will include performances dating back to 1961. Next up will be sets from Charles Bradley (2012), Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings (2010), Our Native Daughters (2019), Middle Brother (2011 & 2016), Fleet Foxes (2017) and Beck. All-star Speak Out (2017) and If I Had A Song performances bring Revival Radio to its conclusion on Sunday.
Three video livestream events will also take place over the course of the weekend. Mavis 80 airs on Friday night, Deer Tick & Friends play on Saturday night and a special dubbed Our Voices Together premieres on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
