Newport Folk Festival Announces 2019 Aftershow Benefits

Mavis Staples, Deer Tick and Hiss Golden Messenger are among the acts who will perform aftershows in Newport, Rhode Island during the Newport Folk Festival. All concerts are benefits and will take place at various venues in Newport.

Deer Tick will play a series of aftershows for the ninth year in a row. The concerts will be held at Newport Blues Cafe July 26 – 28 and are billed as “Deer Tick & Friends.” A bevy of surprise guests have joined the band at past Newport aftershows. Proceeds from the performances will benefit the Newport Festivals Foundation and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. A lottery for tickets is currently underway here and runs through Tuesday, May 28 at 11 p.m. ET. Winners will be selected at random starting on Wednesday, May 29 at 10 a.m. ET.

On Thursday, July 25 Aaron Lee Tasjan & Friends will perform as part of the “All Newport’s Eve Tas-jam” at Newport Blues Cafe. Tickets go on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. ET via Eventbrite. Then, there are three options on Friday, July 26. Phil Cook and Brad Cook will host “Steal Your Folk” at Jane Pickens Theater with tickets on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. ET via Eventbrite; Charley Crockett & Friends will perform at the Parlor with tickets on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. ET via Eventbrite and The Milk Carton Kids will present the “Sad Songs Comedy Hour” at Newport Congregational with tickets on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. ET via Eventbrite.

There are also three options on the night of Saturday, July 27. Mavis Staples will play Jane Pickens Theater with tickets on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. ET via Eventbrite; Robert Ellis & Friends will perform at Parlor with tickets on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. ET via Eventbrite and Hiss Golden Messenger will team with Mountain Man and Jonathan Wilson for “Let Us Go Into The House” at Newport Congregational with tickets on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. ET via Eventbrite.

Proceeds from all official aftershows benefit the Newport Festivals Foundation. This year’s Newport Folk Festival will take place at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island July 26 – 28. Tickets are sold out.
