Fifteen years ago tonight supergroup Oysterhead brought their first and only tour to the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, New York. Fan-shot footage of nearly the entire show has surfaced on the 15th anniversary of the concert.
Oysterhead features Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, Primus bassist Les Claypool and The Police drummer Stewart Copeland. The band first played together during Jazz Fest ’00 in New Orleans and released their lone album The Grand Pecking Order in 2001. On October 21, 2001 the trio launched a tour in support of the LP and brought the run to Utica on November 9, 2001.
Trey, Les and Stewart focused on songs from The Grand Pecking Order over the course of their lengthy set in Utica, fitting ten tunes from the LP into the performance including “Oz Is Ever Floating,” “Rubberneck Lions” and “Army’s On Ecstasy.” Oysterhead ended the evening with a cover of “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin. The video below, shared by John Durr, begins towards the start of the “Oz Is Ever Floating” opener and features a photo montage in lieu of video for “Immigrant Song.” Take a look:
