New Orleans Hosts ‘Purple Rain Day’ Second-Line Memorial For Prince

Yesterday, thousands gathered in the streets of New Orleans for what was dubbed “Purple Rain Day” in honor of the late musician Prince who passed away last week at age 57. The tribute to The Purple One was capped with a traditional second-line memorial parade through the streets of the Treme neighborhood.
The second-line parade started after the mass of mourners gathered outside of the Oo Poo Pah Doo Bar while Prince’s music was loudly playing from the outdoor speakers. A brass ensemble lead by trumpeter James Andrews and Mardi Gras Indian chief Alfred Doucette was accompanied by those that were there to celebrate Prince, who helped sing his classic songs.
